MAJLIS MEMORIES 1980
OBJECTIVE
As a designer, I aimed to create a unique and nostalgic deck of cards that would serve as both a functional game and a storytelling piece, reflecting the bond between friends while celebrating Arab culture from the 1980s. The goal was to design each card to capture meaningful memories, cultural references, and playful inside jokes that hold significance to the group, making the deck a piece of personal and cultural nostalgia.
SOLUTION
1
Story & Memory Outlining
I first outlined and crafted a unique story or memory for each card, focusing on incidents and jokes that would resonate with the group’s shared experiences. This stage provided a solid foundation, ensuring each card would carry an individual narrative that adds to the overall deck’s meaning.
2
Sketch Transformation
With the memories mapped out, I transformed each story into sketches. These illustrations captured the essence of each moment with expressive, hand-drawn designs inspired by the Arab lifestyle of the 1980s, blending cultural motifs with playful elements.
3
Design Refinement
After finalizing the sketches, I refined each design, carefully incorporating traditional details that reflect the group’s heritage and humor. This stage ensured that the cards would feel authentic to both the group's personality and cultural roots.
4
Final Compilation
The final deck brought together humor, competitive spirit, and deep friendship, with each card representing a story that connects to the group's past. This unique deck captured both the strong bonds among friends and nostalgic references, transforming it into a meaningful and culturally rich tribute to the Arab majlis experience.
