OBJECTIVE

As part of a multimedia course, I had the opportunity to create a personal digital artwork titled "BETWEEN TIMES." The objective of this project was to capture Bahrain’s journey through different eras and its transition from the past to the present and future.

The artwork needed to evoke a sense of cultural evolution, showcasing the contrasts between traditional and modern elements in Bahrain. The central figure of the Tree of Life symbolizes resilience and continuity, while the depiction of a boy growing into a man represents the passage of time.

My goal was to create a narrative that could resonate with a wide audience, making the artwork suitable for public display in significant venues such as airports, exhibitions, museums, and cultural institutions, where it could reflect Bahrain’s evolving identity.

SOLUTION

1

Conceptualization of the Theme

I began by defining the concept, focusing on Bahrain’s journey from its rich past to a progressive future. The central theme aimed to highlight continuity, using symbolic elements that reflect the nation’s evolution over time.

2

Central Symbol - The Tree of Life

To ground the mural, I selected the Tree of Life as the focal element. This iconic tree symbolizes resilience and history, positioned at the center to bridge the past and future, visually connecting both eras.

3

Depicting the Past

On the left side, I illustrated a young boy facing symbols of traditional Bahrain, like camels, horses, and falcons. These elements evoke the cultural roots of Bahrain, establishing a sense of heritage and nostalgia.

4

Representing the Future

On the right side, the boy is now depicted as an adult, facing Bahrain’s modern aspirations. I included contemporary elements, such as cityscapes, airplanes, and sustainability icons, showcasing the nation’s growth and its green future vision.

5

Process Stage

During the process, I experimented with digital hand-drawn techniques to blend the traditional and modern visuals seamlessly. I iterated on color palettes, line textures, and spatial arrangements to maintain a cohesive look that would capture attention and engage viewers in the story of Bahrain’s transition.

6

Merging Tradition and Modernity

By combining these elements, I crafted a balanced mural designed to evoke continuity and progression. This thoughtful blend of old and new makes it ideal for prominent public spaces like airports, museums, exhibitions, and central banks, allowing it to serve as a reflective experience of Bahrain’s national identity for both locals and international visitors.
